10:48 pm - community memberships: changed to moderated to prevent more spam

Hello Artlantans...

You all may have been seeing this crap, too, but I have deleted the posts and reported/banned the posters of two different spams in the past couple of days. It's possible the other mods have been catching other posts before I've seen them, I don't know, but I've been seeing it everywhere on the lj comms, not just this one, and am pretty damn sick of it.

I know it's frustrating as a community member because you can't report it yourselves, and just have to hope that a mod comes along to report/remove it eventually. Some of my comms aren't well-modded, and I sometimes end up with several posts of the same spam filling my friends-page to scroll past.

So I hope no one minds, but I wanted to alert you all to the fact that after this last one I went ahead and set membership in this community to be moderated. There are five mods for this comm and we will all receive an email when there is a request for membership, so I feel pretty certain that requests will be approved in a timely fashion, just as soon as we can look and be sure the person making the request is legit. The aim is not to exclude new members, but to eliminate crap that makes the internet less enjoyable for us all. I think the trade-off in a slight wait to the incoming member will be worth the community at large not continuously being afflicted with Russian porn until one of us happens to come to along to see it [since we don't receive any notification about that]. Hopefully you will agree, and if not, at least be reasonably nice about your disagreement when you comment. ;)

Enjoy your weekends, folks, and stay safe if the weather actually gets bad. It's been almost a year since Hotlanta 2010, I wonder if we will really see another so soon.

8:34 pm - CommonCreativ Magazine.

CommonCreativ is an Atlanta-based forum for local professionals. We are a trade & lifestyle publication with a heavy focus on reconnecting the creative community in and around the perimeter. Our media group has over 40 contributors from all over Atlanta, and the Southeast. In addition to the writing staff, some of the content is blogger-driven. With permissions of local bloggers, we will feature posts and links to their sites in an effort to connect the digital community.

This is the project I've been working on for awhile; I'm the managing editor of this magazine and I'm very excited about it, I think it has the potential to go far. It is the only publication of its type in not only Atlanta, but the entire Southeast, and we have a lot of pretty important people (such as our editor-at-large, Meredith Pruden) watching closely to see how we do; our writing and editing team comprises professionals from Conde Nast, Modern Luxury Group, and others. We're planning to release the print copy of our quarterly magazine in December, and the digital copy a month before that.

And we want YOUR involvement. Repost this. Tell all your friends, whether you're in Atlanta or not- everybody might find something that interests them. Visit the site, check out the featured artists, give us feedback on what we should be covering to build our creative community.

If you are interested in contributing, leave a comment or drop me a line at intrikate88@livejournal.com to let me know!

10:58 am - Sidewalk art places....

I do Sidewalk art,
Chalk and Charcoals. Nothing permanent.

I normally do all my drawing in Little 5 Points but the city is doing some kind of work on the lines under the pavement and have ripped my canvas up pretty bad.

Does anyone know of any place I might move to to chalk freely? An area of town that has comparable foot traffic and allowance of artistic expression as Little 5 so that a bored creepy guy can make pictures on the pavement.

12:25 pm - Rubber Stamping....

Ok, I have a thought but i need to figure out materials.

I was thinking of cutting 3 Linoleum blocks to make a 3 color image, but I wanted to put this image on a solid surface rather than paper. I wanted to be able to do a 3 color stamp on glass, how can I do this? I tried plain old ink stamp pads but it never dried. Regular acrylic paints are a pain to apply, I was hoping for something more stamp like in application as well. It's a repeating pattern so I wanna be able to do it in a reasonable amount of time. I want to try and find an ink/paint that will go onto and dry quickly.

Anyone have any ideas?
(x-posted around sorry if you get it multiple times)

11:16 am - My recent Chalk Mural for Eyedrum

Sidewalk chalk on black paint
took 12 hours, was a ton of fun, but still feels unfinished. I could have used another week.

The whole thing

Left side/Corner. Had to hide a wall outlet

Right side

With me in there for scale

I'd like some advice, I'm still learning and was wondering if anyone had pointers or nkew of some good books for improving my skills at this sort of thing. I love lifesize art and want to actually get good.

At about 1:30ish I'll be out in Little 5 Points in front of Holy Mother Tattoo with a small pile of sidewalk chalk. If anyone wants to come hang and get dirty on the pavement, come on out.
